how to buy a house in 28 hours

1:00pm Saturday - at The House
We're the only people at the open house. Apparently the newspaper got the date wrong (we had seen the listing online). There's going to be another open house tomorrow. Walk through The House. Like The House.

2:00pm Saturday - driving around The Town
We like The Town. A lot. We also like The House. A lot. We talk about making an offer.

8:00pm Saturday - at home
We still like The House. Call our buyer's agent. Ask her to run comps, come see open house.

Overnight - at home
Tossing and turning.

1:15pm Sunday - at The House
Comps seem to match up with our ideas about an offer. We go in the house and walk around with our buyer's agent. We walk to the back of the property and see a great blue heron flying over the water in the distance. We're sold. We leave The House and go to our agent's office.

3:00pm Sunday - at the agent's office
We're very relaxed as we fill out paperwork. We feel good about our offer. Our agent is optimistic.

4:15pm Sunday - Super Stop & Shop produce section
Pat's cell phone rings. They've countered with slightly more than our offer. We instruct buyer's agent to counter with slightly less. We finish grocery shopping in a very distracted state. I think we walked out of there with a few of the things we needed.

4:42pm Sunday - Super Stop & Shop parking lot
Pat's cell phone rings. They accepted our offer.

4:43pm Sunday - in the car
Panic ensues. The good kind.

(Still have to get through the rest of the process, but we're off to a great start. Did I mention the house is on Great Road? Isn't that great?!)
