Person A did give notice yesterday. We're all very happy for Person A, who's leaving us to take a newly created job that she's very well equipped to do and that will pay her significantly more than we do.
Person B, after saying that she wanted Person A's job at 10am this morning, changed her mind by late afternoon (with the help of some probing questions at 10am from Person in Charge). She gave notice at 3pm.
It's really all for the best.
Not my best, but the greater-good kind of best. And isn't that really the best kind of best?
Someone please remind me of that when I start rocking back and forth in the corner.
It's kind of a relief, actually. Person B is a nice person, but she's had a total meltdown and is pretty useless in her current, soon-to-be-ended job, which means I'm picking up all of the pieces that keep flying off. Fortunately she realized, as Person in Charge hoped, that her meltdown would not be cured by Person A's job, thereby saving all of us months of agony. I suppose I'm exaggerating a bit, but certainly the stress, tension, and incompetence levels would have been high.
Now I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do with Person B's job. Do we keep it the way it is with its title and responsibilities, or do we morph it into what would essentially be my minion? I'd have to take on the important assignments from the old job, and the new job would handle all of the other lesser assignments and some of the lesser items that I've been responsible for. It's difficult, because for what we're paying, I'm not sure that we can find someone who can do either job at the level we need them to.
Where are all of these fabulously organized fast writers with people skills who want to work for non-profit wages and are currently seeking employment? Perhaps I will develop a spam email message to search them out. Subject line: "salad dressing 6328 cigars." That'll get their attention.
