"So far, winter has been a bust in Syracuse, upstate New York's snow capital, and that's all Buffalo needed to take the lead in the annual Golden Snowball race for the state's snowiest big city.
"'There's competition this year. We actually have a five-way race,' said Pat DeCoursey, who runs the 'unofficial' Golden Snowball Web site....
"'We're killing 'em,' deadpanned Judy Levan, a meteorologist at the Buffalo station of the National Weather Service. 'It's so meager, it's pathetic.'"
