So the Jen-mobile had a little problem this weekend. It wasn't the aliens this time. It was the exhaust system. How do I know?
Allow me to direct your attention to the handy-dandy reference chart below...
Telephone dial tone 80dB
Train whistle (at 500') 90dB
Lawn mower 107dB
Pneumatic riveter 125dB
The Jen-mobile 130dB
Jet engine (at 100') 140dB
Death of hearing tissue 180dB
Loudest sound possible 194dB
This was not good. Especially since the sound was causing the gas pedal to vibrate upon acceleration. Coupled with the steering wheel vibration upon braking, the Jen-mobile had gone from a sexy wiggle to "puree." While it was turning more heads than ever, it was far from stealth, which was definitely crimping the Jen's style.
Thanks to the fine people at Midas and Citibank, the Jen-mobile now features 100 fewer decibels, 50% more braking power, and a 75% greater likelihood of new ownership within three years.
